IPTV on Android TV and Android boxes

What you need

  • An Android TV, Google TV or Android box signed in to a Google account
  • Your Mom IPTV playlist address or Xtream Codes login details
  • About ten minutes

Step 1 — Install a player from Google Play

Open Google Play on the device and search for the IPTV player recommended for your setup. Install it the same way you would any other app.

Players written for Android TV handle the directional pad properly. A phone app side-loaded onto a television usually expects taps and is frustrating to drive with a remote.

Step 2 — Add your playlist

Open the player and choose to add a playlist or profile, selecting M3U or Xtream Codes to match the details you were sent. Enter them exactly, including capitals.

Typing with a remote is slow. Most Android TV devices let you use the Google TV app on your phone as a keyboard, which is quicker and more accurate.

Step 3 — Set up the programme guide

Many Android TV players let you choose how the guide is laid out and how far ahead it loads. A shorter guide window loads faster on lower-powered boxes.

If the guide is blank, give the first download time to finish before changing settings.

Getting the best from a box

  • Cheap Android boxes vary a lot. If playback stutters on everything, the box's processor may simply be too slow for the resolution you have selected.
  • Use Ethernet where you can. Most boxes have a port, and it removes the most common cause of buffering.
  • Keep the player updated through Google Play — guide formats change and older versions fall behind.
  • Clear the player's cache if the channel list becomes out of date, then let it rebuild.
